The Rack

I've eaten at The Rack twice now.  The first time was back in December.  My husband and I discovered The Rack when we were looking for a place to grab dinner before seeing a movie in Woodland Hills.  The restaurant/bar is adjacent to the mall's entrance to the movie theater, and the menu is full of delicious food like hamburgers, buffalo wings and New York style pizza.  On the night we were there in December, a jazz band was playing on stage.  The music was loud, but it was a fun atmosphere.

We gravitated towards the pizza for dinner.  They have two sizes, an individual 12-inch size, and a family 20-inch size.  On that particular night, we decided to order two individual size pizzas and share.  The restaurant was crowded, and we were sitting at a little 2-person table.  There was barely enough room on the table for the two pizzas.  12-inches is an underestimate.  One small pizza would be enough for two people to share unless they were very hungry.  We shared The Brooklyn Pie, which is topped with pepperoni, meatballs and Italian sausage.  It was okay, but I remember thinking that the sausage had kind of a licorice taste.  I don't like licorice.  We also shared Mama Leah's Bronx White Pie which is topped with mozzarella, ricotta, spinach and mushrooms.  Both pizzas were good, but I preferred the white pie.  The dough is real New York style thin crust and has that great authentic made-with-New-York-water taste.  We enjoyed the food and the entertainment and left with leftovers and the thought that we'd have to go there again sometime.

Tonight was that sometime.  My husband and I took my mom to The Rack for dinner tonight before catching a belated Mother's Day movie next door.  She loves pizza as much as we do.  Being a week night, it wasn't nearly as crowded as when my husband and I were there in December.  We also got there before the band started playing.  It was kind of nice to have the place to ourselves.  Most people at this time of night seemed to gravitate towards the bar and pool tables.  We stayed in the main dining room for a quieter dinner.  This time we decided to try The Elliotts Favorite Pie in the family size.  It was topped with meatballs and mushrooms.  It was huge.  It almost filled our 4-person-size table and was plenty of food for 3 hungry people.  I would definitely get that again.

As I watched my husband finish the last piece of pizza, I suddenly remembered that I hadn't taken any pictures.  Sorry, folks.  I'll take pictures next time, and there will be a next time.

Another table ordered burgers and fries, and I must say those looked pretty delicious too.  They also have a wide beer selection.  I'm not a beer drinker, but if you are, this may be another feature you'd enjoy.  Really, from pizza and live music to drink specials, pool tables and sports on TV, they have something for everyone.

Happy eating!
