Buzz's Wharf - Maui

dining room
rum and Coke
Aloha from Maui!  Tonight, we went to Buzz's Wharf for happy hour.  They have live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays during happy hour, so it seemed like the perfect time to stop.

margarita

We started with drinks.  I ordered a margarita, and my husband had a rum and coke.  The drinks were good but not incredible.  The rum and coke had black dots floating in it, but when we asked the waitress about it, she said the dots were vanilla bean from the rum, Hana Bay rum.

prawns and fries

We had heard amazing things about the prawns at Buzz's Wharf, so we knew we had to try those.  We had been told they were like mini lobsters and were covered in Parmesan and butter.  They came with a side; we chose fries.  The prawns were smaller than we expected.  They were more like big shrimp.  I think the coconut shrimp that I had at Cheeseburger in Paradise was bigger.  We only got 5 prawns, which wasn't a lot for the price.  They were good, but they weren't amazing.  I always hate it when something's really built up, because then I have high expectations.  Sometimes it's better not to expect much.  We tried the prawns, and now we know that we wouldn't order them again.

calamari

We also ordered the calamari strips.  Now, that was impressive.  It was a better value than at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  They were think strips and really delicious.  I would order the calamari again if I were at Buzz's for happy hour.
view

The view was nice, but it just looks like a marina.  If you're in L.A., it's similar to Marina del Rey.

Overall, we heard that Buzz's Wharf was good, so we tried it.  The food and drinks were good, but next time I'd probably try somewhere else.  I like the view and food better at Cheeseburger in Paradise, but the calamari was better at Buzz's Wharf.

Happy eating!
