Cheeseburger in Paradise - Lahaina, Maui

Maui Mai Tai
Pina Colada
Tonight we decided to try the original Cheeseburger in Paradise.  We made it there in the middle of happy hour, so we started with half-price Mai Tais, Pina Coladas and appetizers.  The Mai Tais weren't as big as at the Sands of Kahana, but they were stronger.  The Pina Colada was good but heavy on coconut flavor.  I didn't taste as much rum or pineapple as I would expect.

Island Style Calamari Strips
Polynesian Coconut Shrimp

For appetizers, we got the fried calamari strips and the coconut shrimp.  I'm usually not a huge fan of calamari, but this was delicious.  The strips were really thick, and the roasted red pepper dipping sauce was creamy and slightly spicy.  The coconut shrimp was also probably the best I've ever had.  The shrimp were huge and thickly breaded with coconut.  The dipping sauce was sweet and fruity.  It was like dessert.

Then we ordered our entrees.  My husband got the Original Cheeseburger in Paradise topped with bacon.  It was a really good burger, but it wasn't the best burger ever.

I ordered the Island Shrimp and Spinach Salad.  I usually don't like fruit on a salad, but I liked the papaya pieces and the sprinkling of coconut and macadamia nuts.  The shrimp were also really good, and the sesame dressing complemented the salad well.  It wasn't the best salad I've ever had, but it tasted fresh and was unlike any salad I've had before.  I'd order it again.

Ono Onion Rings
We also ordered a basket of Ono Onion Rings to share.  "Ono" means "delicious" in Hawaiian, and they certainly were delicious; however, they weren't the best onion rings I've ever had.

There was live music while we were there.  I always love live music at a restaurant.  And, it didn't hurt that we were sitting right next to the window with a fabulous ocean view.  If time allows, we'd definitely like to go back to Cheeseburger in Paradise while we're here in Maui.

Happy eating...in paradise!
