Redd's Apple Ale and Redd's Strawberry Ale

My husband and I aren't big beer drinkers.  In fact, we usually only use beer for cooking, like when we're making Beer Battered Chips, but we still like to look in the beer section of our local Total Wine store.

A couple weeks ago, we picked up Redd's Apple Ale and Redd's Strawberry Ale.  They sounded so good and refreshing, but I was still worked that it would taste like "liquid bread," since that's what I usually think beer tastes like.

This doesn't taste like liquid bread at all.  Redd's Apple Ale smells like apples and has a crisp and refreshing flavor.  It tastes light and fruity, very enjoyable.

Although I like Redd's Apple Ale, I prefer Redd's Strawberry Ale.  It really tastes like strawberries!  It's sweeter than the Apple Ale, but not too sweet.  Really, it's just delicious, and I definitely need to go back to Total Wine and get some more!

If you're looking for something different to bring to a party or potluck this Holiday Season, why not bring Redd's Apple Ale or Redd's Strawberry Ale?

Punk'n Harvest Pumpkin Ale

To me, beer usually just tastes like liquid bread.  It's the yeast, of course.  But, it's Fall, and nothing says "Fall" to me like the flavor of pumpkin.  I couldn't resist trying Uinta Brewing Co's Punk'n Harvest Pumpkin Ale, which, according to Uinta's website, is "brewed with fresh pumpkin and seasonal spices."

On first pour, I was allured by the slightly pumpkin orange color of the ale.  Upon first sip, I tasted some spices, but I mainly just tasted "liquid bread."  I was disappointed that I didn't taste any pumpkin.

Oh, well.  You never know until you try.  I won't be purchasing this particular pumpkin ale again.  If you know of a seasonal pumpkin beer that you think I should try, please add a comment.

Post Workout Beer?

According to an article in The Washington Times, researchers have discovered that beer is a better post-workout drink than water or Gatorade.  Who am I to argue?

Usually I think that beer tastes like drinking bread, and I'd rather eat bread than drink it; however, I do like some flavored beer.  Since fall is here, I thought I'd try out Abita Pecan Harvest Ale which is brewed with spring water and Louisiana pecans.

After my afternoon workout, I jumped off the treadmill, put away the weights and cracked open Abita Pecan.  Upon first sniff, it just smelled like beer to me.  The flavor is nothing like drinking bread though.  It's more like drinking spring water with a slightly nutty flavor.  It's very refreshing on a hot September day in L.A.  I feel more hydrated already!
